Mervin M. Jules

Mervin M. Jules (1912-1994) was a native of Baltimore, Maryland, prior to relocating to Massachusetts and New York. He was most recognized for his illustrations, murals, printmaking, mosaics and graphic art design, as well as his modernism and abstract styles. His works primarily centered on caricature, wildlife, social realism, satire, religion, genre, landscapes, animals, figure and historical subjects. JulesÕ art has been exhibited at the 1939 and1940 Golden Gate International Exposition, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Brooklyn Museum, the National Academy of Design, the Corcoran Gallery of Washington, D. C., the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the International Carnegie Institute and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He was affiliated with the American Artists Congress, the Audubon Society of Artists, the Provincetown Art Association and the WPA Federal Arts Project. Jules received his formal art education at the Art Students League of New York and at the Maryland Institute of Design, College of Art.
