This is an original 1950 black and white photogravure of the white cliffs along the coast at Berneval-le-Grand (Berneval-sur-Mer) in the region of Haute-Normandie (Normandy) in northern France. Normandy is the historical region corresponding to the former Duchy of Normandy in northern France. It lies along the English Channel and is traditionally divided into Upper and Lower Normandy. In World War II, the D-Day landings occurred along the Normandy beaches and that event began the lengthy Battle of Normandy which many believe was the turning point of that war.
