This is an original 1952 halftone print of "19 Prisons" in the First State. The image is one in a series of sixteen prints produced in first and second states. Each image in the series represent an imaginary, labyrinthian structure with stairs and machinery. Two prisoners can be seen in the center of the image "pounding rocks" as their sentence.
