This is an original 1952 halftone print of "23 Prisons" in the First State. The image is one in a series of sixteen prints produced in first and second states. Each image in the series represent an imaginary, labyrinthian structure with stairs and machinery. It would appear there is a female prisoner assisting a scarecrow down a flight of stairs in the center of the image.
