This is an original 1952 black and white rotogravure of Lakenhalle, (Cloth Hall), located in the city of Ypres, Belgium. During the Middle Ages, cats where thrown from the tower to their deaths for their association with black magic. Today, a jester throws stuffed toy kittens from the tower during their triennial Cat Festival (or Kattenstoet). Because cats have nine lives, they usually had to be tossed multiple times before the desired outcome was reached.
