This is an original 1897 monochrome wood engraving of "John Morley," 1st Viscount Morley of Blackburn. Moreley was British Liberal statesman, Member of Parliament, Chief Secretary of Ireland, Secretary of State for India, Lord President of the Council, journalist, writer and editor known best for his exceptionally conservative opposition to government intervention in both social and economic matters. He is noted for opposing the eight hour work day, the Boer War, British Imperialism and British entry into World War I.
