"Mist in the Mountains" by Zhu Changfang (Chang Fang-Ju) Prince of Lu
This is an original 1936 color print of what one can imagine was the Prince of Lu's view in the morning as mist would descend upon the mountains of Hangzhou where he spent two years during the fall of the Meng Dynasty. His use of the blank spaces to represent the mountains makes his bold strokes in the foreground to shadow the tree and farm land more dynamic.
This is a particularly important piece because many of the Chinese rulers of the Meng and Qing Dynasties were experienced painters, poets and musicians, but none with the renown of the Prince of Lu.
