This is an original 1882 hand-colored lithograph by English entomologist William Forsell Kirby (1844-1912), of several species of moths from the genus Noctua, including; the Tawny Shears or Pod Lover, Hadena perplexa (Fig. 1), the Guernsey Underwing, Polyphaenis sericata, (Fig. 2), the Cleophana anarrhini, (Fig. 3), the Double-spot Brocade, Meganephria bimaculosa, (Fig. 4), the Jaspidea celsia, (Fig. 5), the Grey, Hadena caesia, (Fig. 6), the Oncocnemis confusa, (Fig. 7), the Dianthoecia luteago, (Fig. 8), the Hiptelia ochreago, (Fig. 9), the African Cotton Leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis, (also called the Egyptian Cotton Leafworm and the Mediterranean Brocade, Fig. 10), the Valeria jaspidea, (Fig. 11), and the Ulochlaena hirta, (Fig. 12, a-b).
