This ancient church dates back to 1256 AD, though it was since expanded upon in Baroque and German Brick Gothic architectural styles. Unfortunately, during World War II, the church was significantly damaged by air raids, which left only the outer walls and the base of the spire. Thankfully, the building was restored between 1950 and 1957. Interestingly, famous German composer organist and musician, Johann Sebastian Bach, played the organ at St. Catherine's Church.
