This is a rare original 1888 color chromolithograph which depicts a small selection of traditional folk costumes from 19th century Italy, as well as a quaint scene of children dancing to pifferari, or bagpipers, as two women stand nearby. They were the peasant workers of rural Italy, and as they were commonly illiterate their cultural knowledge would be passed down by word of mouth.
