This is an original 1895 halftone print of the unsuccessful meeting between Queen Louise Mecklenburg Strelitz of Prussia and French Emperor Napoleon Bonapart I at Tilsit. Her majesty attempted to plead with Bonapart for favorable terms after Prussia's tremendous losses following the Napoleonic Wars. The Queen died at the tender age of 34. This print features artwork by W. Camphausen.

Interesting Fact:

During the World War II era, Queen Louise was used in German military propaganda as an example of the ideal German woman, as her majesty had both charm and good looks, as well as the ability to form powerful ties to government ministers while maintaining a strong business sense.
