This is an original 1895 black and white steel engraving of a portrait of J. V. V. Platto, who came to Wisconsin in 1848 to practice law. Platto was admitted as an attorney in 1845 by his native state of New York. Platto became one of the oldest lawyers in the state of Wisconsin. During 1861 and 1862, Platto served on the assembly board where he conducted investigations of state affairs, including war funding.
