This is an original 1904 color print featuring an image of Joseph Nash's illustration of the Hall in the Ockwells Manor, located in Berkshire, England. This 15th Century grand estate was made of Herringbone brickwork and timber-framed without fortifications. Originally, the manor was given to the chief cook to Queen Eleanor, Richard le Norreys in 1283. Passed down through generations of the Norrey family, the estate settled under the ownership of Henry VI's wardrobe keeper Sir John Norreys, who began to rebuild the manor in 1446. The great hall includes contemporary heraldic stained glass, which pay tribute to Sir John's Lancastrian affiliations, including the King, Queen, Duke of Warwick, Duke of Somerset, Duke of Suffolk, the 1st Earl of Wiltshire James Butler, Bishop of Salisbury, Sir Richard Nanfan, among others. The generation of Norreys maintained residency in Ockwells until 1517, when Sir John, Sir John's great-grandson, was forced to forfeit the manor in return for retribution of the murder of a John Enhold of Nettlebed. Ockwells was then passed to Sir Thomas Fettiplace, Sir John's uncle, where it continued to be passed in the Fettiplace family for generations, until it was finally given to the Day family.
