This is an original 1910 sepia photogravure of "St. Bénézet's Bridge, Avignon." This early twentieth century image captures St. Bénézet's Bridge in Avignon, France. Started in 1177, the 920 meter bridge features 22 arches and was 4 meters wide. At the time of its completion eight years later, it was an imposing structure considered a marvel, providing the only crossing over the Rhône River between Lyon and the Mediterranean and attracting merchants and manufacturers, substantially contributing to the development of the city.
