This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of the inauguration of President Warren Harding on March 4, 1921. The caption writes, "The occasion was one of the most impressive and imposing in the history of Presidential inaugurations. The spot chosen was that on which Abraham Lincoln had stood when he delivered his inaugural address sixty years before, and as far as possible the ceremony was made to conform to that of the earlier date. The President took the oath with his hand laid on the open Bible directly over the verse which read: 'What doth the Lord require of thee but to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with they God.' His address, which was an eloquent effort, was listened to with deference and profound attention."
