This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of the passion play in Oberammergau, Germany (Deutschland). Shown is Anton Lang, who played the part of Christ. Also shown is a view of the village in Bavaria. The town is famous for its Passion Play, first performed in 1634, and presented once every ten years thereafter. The citizens made a vow to God to perform the play after being spared from the bubonic plague in the 17th century. The play involves over 2,000 actors and utilizes all of the residents in the village.
