This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of the Eiffel Tower and the Palace of Versailles. The caption for the palace begins, "Palace and gardens of Versailles in the suburbs of Paris. The Palace of Versailles was built by Louis XIV. At a cost of many millions spent on the structure and in the embellishment of the magnificent park in which it stands." Louis XIV became an integral part of the expansion of the château, and developed the royal hunting lodge into one of the largest palaces in the world. As for the Eiffel Tower, it is the tallest building in Paris, and was constructed in 1889 for the World's Fair by engineer and designer Gustave Eiffel. Since the fair, it has become one of the most iconic monuments in the world, and is the distinguished symbol of Paris and France.
