This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of a drawing of a large German gun sheltered in the St. Gobain Forest. From the forest, the gun was able to send shells a distance of 75 miles onto Paris, France. The caption writes, "On March 23, 1918, the world was thrilled by the news that shells were falling in Paris. It was thought at first that the projectiles must have fallen from airplanes too high up to be visible. It was later found that they came from monster guns in the St. Gobain Forest, seventy-five miles distant. The guns, three in number, were later damaged or destroyed by French airmen. One of the guns is here shown being loaded for firing. The picture was drawn by one of the gun crew and published in a German paper. The gun was about ninety feet long and its projectile weighed 200 pounds."
