This is an original 1941 sepia photogravure of the London Charterhouse in the 1940s. The Charterhouse is a historic complex of buildings in Smithfield, London dating back to the 14th century. It was a monastery, a Tudor mansion, as well as an Almshouse and School. Part of the estate is now home to male senior citizens who refer to themselves as "Brothers."
