This is a rare original 1888 color chromolithograph which depicts one of the most valuable possessions an inhabitant of Brittany could own, the bahut. These intricately carved chests were works of art, passed down through the generations, and often contained all of the belongings they owned. The designs are reminiscent of Celtic knotwork patterns and the traditional patterns which the Breton use on the embroidery of their clothing. These two particular examples most likely date back to the late 16th century or early 17th century.
