This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure describing the transatlantic crossing of Alcock and Brown on June 15, 1919. Shown is the Vickers Vimy plane used during the flight after it had dangerously landed. The caption writes, 'The Vickers Vimy plane in which Alcock and Brown accomplished their transatlantic flight, with her nose stuck in the bog at Clifden. The plane struck with considerable force, but the ground was soft, and apart from a vigorous shaking up the aviators sustained no injury."
