1923 Rotogravure Lakehurst NJ Dirigible Mooring Mast Blimp ZR-1 Airship Historic
This is an original 1923 sepia rotogravure with three aviation images: the airship mooring mast on the field at Lakehurst, NJ; the U.S. Army blimp C-2; and an interior view of the rigid dirigible ZR-1 (USS Shenandoah) under construction at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station. The mooring mast at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station is notable for later being the site of the German passenger airship Hindenburg disaster on May 6, 1937.

Rotogravure is a printing method using a rotary press with intaglio cylinders which allows for very high quality halftone reproductions to be printed at high speed on inexpensive paper stock.
