This is an original 1865 black and white in-text wood engraving of the Grand Drive in Central Park, New York City, from a sketch by the artist Alfred Rudolph Waud. Passing traffic would travel through Central Park at this time on "transverses" that were lined with vegetation to keep the park looking natural.
