This is an original 1925 lithograph of an interior architectural design motif from a mantelpiece from a home in Oriole, Somerset County, Maryland, circa 1760. The cornice-style moldings are shown in detail with an overall plan of the column-based hearth. Oriole is a historic unincorporated community that acquired its first residents around 1649; some of these settlers were Thomas Bloyce, Jr., and John and Peter Elzey.

Period Paper has obtained a rare collection of large-format architectural lithographs produced by the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) in New York City with the help and interest of Mr. R. T. H. Halsey. This collection specifically contained measured drawings of woodwork that were exhibited in the American Wing of The Met, and the hope behind the publishing of these pieces was to help inspire and aid architects, designers, and artists in their architectural creations. The artist of this collection was Mr. H. W. Waldron Faulkner, who was born in Stamford, Connecticut, in 1860, and who passed away in the Washington District of Columbia in 1940. He was most active in his career in Washington, Connecticut, and was best known for his artistic renderings of interior and exterior architectural designs.
