This is an original 1947 color print ad for the National City Bank of New York, with branches throughout the world. John T. S. Reed was the resident Vice President in charge of the branches in China and Japan at the time, and the gorgeous artwork entitled Planting Time was created by Howard Baer.

Howard Baer

Howard Baer (1906-1986) received his art education from the Carnegie Institute of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Baer worked in various mediums and genres, and served in World War II as a Navy ÒWAVESÓ painter. Baer exhibited at the Carnegie Institute, the Corcoran Gallery and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He was a professor at the Parsons School of Design, and contributed to various magazines, including ÓThe New Yorker,Ó and Esquire.
