This is an original 1883 black and white photolithograph of a painting by William Hogarth (1697-1764) that portrayed philanthropic sea captain Thomas Coram (1668-1751), who founded the Foundling Hospital for orphan children in Bloomsbury, London, England between 1742-1745 during the Georgian era. The Foundling Hospital is said to be the first incorporated charity in the world.
