This is an original 1900 black and white halftone print of a street in Wakayama, Japan, during the Boys Festival. Now known as Children's Day, this celebration of youth continues to take place on the fifth of May.
Koinobori, colorful carp flags, are flown high on poles so that passersby may see how many little "carps" each household has.
