This is an original 1942 halftone print portrait of John Wesley Dafoe, a journalist and editor from the Manitoba Free Press where he worked from 1901 to 1944. He is shown in this image in the Cumbermere Valley, where he grew up. The newspaper was founded in 1872, and is the oldest newspaper in western Canada. Seen is there location on 300 Carlton Street, where it remained for 78 years until moved to 1355 Mountain Avenue. Photography by Brigdens.
