This is an original 1895 black and white steel engraving of a portrait of William P. Merrill, who first came to the Milwaukee in 1836. Merrill was both a pioneer industrialist and an agriculturist, who was also a member of the Old Pioneer Club and the Old Settlers Club of Milwaukee. Merrill Hall on the Milwaukee-Downer College campus is named in honor of William and his wife Elizabeth. In 1973, the building was declared a landmark. The Communication Department occupies the building.
