This is an original 1900 black and white in-text wood engraving of a portrait of American actor, poet, playwright, and songwriter, John Howard Payne. He is known for writing the song Home! Sweet Home! and for his firsthand accounts of the Cherokee Indians prior to the Trial of Tears. He was also romantically infatuated with Frankenstein author Mary Shelley during the time he spent in Europe.
