This is an original 1888 color chromolithograph of 16th century seats and other furnishings. Prie-dieus were common pieces of furniture used in one's daily devotions, as they provided a comfortable place to kneel while praying or reciting the rosary. As the Renaissance flourished in Italy, it sparked an interest in beautiful household objects which spread throughout Europe. As a result, a lot of pride was placed in skilled craftsmanship in carving and carpentry work.
