This is an original 1904 halftone print of "Que Nous Sommes Betes D'Avoir Une Peur Pareille...Ca N'Est Qu'Un Affreux Mannequin! J'Ai Cru QUe C'Etait Mon Mari!" ("How foolish of us to be so frightened...It is only a horrid scarecrow! Oh, I thought it was my husband.") from the "Pastorales" ("Pastoral") collection.

French painter, caricaturist, sculptor and printmaker, Honore Daumier, has had his works exhibited at the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1901 and many more. He had created artistic plates for music publishers, as well as illustrations for advertisements. In his time, Daumier preferred the stone medium over any other artwork styles. He was also one of the most accomplished lithographic draughtsmen in the world.

Honore Daumier

Honore Daumier (February 26, 1808-February 10, 1879) was a French printmaker, caricaturist, painter and sculptor whose work touched on social and political life in France during the 19th century. Daumier was known for his massive collection of work consisting of over 500 paintings, 4,000 lithographs, 1,000 wood engravings, 1,000 drawings and over 100 sculptures. He started his career producing images for music publishers and illustrations for advertisements. Daumier was known as one of the pioneers of realistic subjects who used a subjective point of view. His work grew in value after his death and can be seen in museums around the world.
