This is an original 1855 black and white in-text wood engraving which depicts the formal French gardens and main building of the Val-de-Grâce military hospital located in Paris, France. It was originally built by Queen Anne of Austria, consort to King Louis XIII, after the birth of their first son, Louis XIV.
