This is an original 1884 black and white in-text wood engraving of a bloody massacre that took place under the horrified gaze of African explorer Dr. David Livingstone. The Arab slavers he had been traveling with slaughtered around four hundred native Africans in Nyangwe, on the banks of the Lualaba river in what is today the Democratic Republic of Congo.
