This is an original 1919 photogravure of the Luck of Edenhall, a 13th century drinking cup made of enameled Saracenic glass in Syria. The cup, which was handed down through the Musgrave family of Edenhall, Cumberland, England, is associated with a fairy legend. A group of fairies was disturbed while dancing near Eden Hall. As they disappeared, leaving this cup, the Queen fairy exclaimed "If e'er this cup should break or fall, Farewell the Luck of Eden Hall." The photogravure includes a short article on this type of enamel glassmaking on the reverse. Please see both images.
