This is an original 1900 black and white halftone print of "Stony Indian Mother and Children." The Nakoda (Stoney) are a First Nation peoples, a term that refers to the indigenous populations of Canada who are neither Inuit nor Métis. The Nakoda at one time inhabited large portions of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Montana, but are now located in Alberta and Saskatchewan. They are part of the large Sioux Nation, related through their language to the Dakota and Lakota nations of the Great Plains and Rocky Mountains.
