This is an original 1882 hand-colored lithograph by English entomologist William Forsell Kirby (1844-1912), of several species of moths from the Sphingidae, Thyrididae, and Sesiidae families, including; the Hummingbird hawk-moth, Macroglossum stellatarum (Fig. 1, a-c), the Macroglossum croatica, (Fig. 2), the Hemaris bombyliformis, (Fig. 3, a-c), the Broad-bordered Bee Hawk-moth, Hemaris fuciformis, (Fig. 4), the Pygmy Moth, Thyris fenestrella, (Fig. 5), the Hornet Moth, Sesia apiformis, (also called the Hornet Clearwing, Fig. 6), the Trochilium crabroniformis, (Fig. 7), the Currant Clearwing Moth, Sesia tipuliformis, (Fig. 8, a-b), the Dale's Oak Clearwing, Synanthedon conopiformis, (Fig. 9), the Sesia asiliformis, (Fig. 10), the Large Red-belted Clearwing, Synanthedon culiciformis, (Fig. 11), the Sesia stomoxyformis, (Fig. 12), the Red-tipped Clearwing, Synanthedon formicaeformis, (Fig. 13), the Sesia empiformis, (Fig. 14), and the Raspberry Crown Borer, Bembecia hylaeiformis, (Fig. 15).
