This is an original 1883 color with metallic (silver and gold) ink chromolithograph of Japanese vases, pill boxes and netsuke (decorative beads used for cinching boxes closed). The items studied in this piece were made of lacquer paint on metal and ivory. They were vessels for various uses including medicine, tobacco, alcohol and incense.
