1883 Japanese Lacquer Boxes Gold Fan Chromolithograph - ORIGINAL OJ1

This is an original 1883 chromolithograph of four beautiful Japanese lacquered boxes. Note the box in the top center which is in a lovely fan shape. The large box on the bottom was used by the Japanese aristocracy for holding letters to be delivered. All are printed with gold or silver metallic ink which, unfortunately, does not show up well in our digital capture, appearing dull brown or gray. Therefore, we have provided another digital image which shows the gold and silver inks better, and a close-up of a portion of the fan box. Please see all images. Our digital images do not do justice to the quality of this fine chromolithograph.

Period Paper has obtained an exquisite collection of Japanese art prints and art plates (including color prints; halftone prints; heliogravures; and chromolithographs). Printed in 1883-1884 these prints and plates come from No. 231 of a limited edition printing of 500. This is truly a rare collection for the connoisseur of Japanese art. CONDITION

This 128+ year old Item is rated Very Fine. No creases. No tears. No water damage. There is some light surface rub in the bottom outer border which does not affect the image. There is also some light spotting--please see image.
