This is a rare original 1888 color chromolithograph which depicts two exquisite furnishing examples from the 17th century. In the upper panel is a recessed bed, placed in a separate small room, à l'Italienne, instead of an actual alcove. Behind the miniature balcony, the bed would have been placed on a raised platform, for that extra bit of extravagance; and what it impressive sight it makes, all nestled within the ornate scrollwork and paneling. The breathtaking side table below has a marble top and intricately carved wooden legs, gilded in gold. It would have looked perfectly at home in the room same as the bed, the nightstand of royalty and the other précieux ridicules.
