This is a rare original 1888 color chromolithograph which offers a glimpse into the rich culture of Spain during the 13th century, during the reign of Alfonso X of Castile.

A unique feature of this illustration, which may be difficult to see in the digital image, is the use of gold ink which not only shimmers when it catches the light but also accentuates some of the finer details that might otherwise be missed.

Top - Lord and lady, receiving news from a messenger - Spanish warriors - Two women offering a young man a lovely fringed scarf.

Bottom - Upper - Wooden pitcher with copper rings - Lamp - Two suspended lamps, similar to those found in Moorish mosques - Copper candlestick - Small embroidered alms pouches - A procession, in which Alfonso X of Castile and a bishop are conversing - Lower - Hunter, with a lance for spearing wild boar - Bird hunter, in a saddle of yellow leather - Alfonso X of Castile wearing a light gonelle, mounted - Spanish merchant paying respect to someone of a higher rank.

This 123+ year old Item is rated Very Fine ++. Light aging throughout. Light wrinkling. No natural defects. No surface rub. No tears. No water damage. Please note that over the years, paper stuck to the dense ink in several places. It is particularly noticeable in the right hand horse in the lower panel, and all of the similar marks are visible in the digital image.
