This is an original 1907 halftone print of a piece by Venetian Renaissance artist Vittore Carpaccio (c. 1465-1525), who is best known his conservative, large-scale detachable wall-paintings, which were not as humanistic in nature as the work of his other Italian contemporaries. In this rendition of The Annunciation, Gabriel prepares Mary for the news of her future divine pregnancy as God simultaneously prepares to implant her with child.
