1938 Print Buddha Itcho Celebration Twelve Months Festival Japanese Art XAC1

This is an original 1938 halftone print of a Japanese screen titled, "Celebrations of the Twelve Months," originally made between the 17th century and early 18th century. Shown are various festivals, a picnic under cherry trees, the bathing of Buddha, as various others scenes.

Period Paper is pleased to present a collection of halftone prints featuring Japanese art screens and sliding panels, or fusuma. The original pieces were displayed at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts, during the winter of 1935-1936, in order to acquaint the public with Japanese artwork. The exhibition offered pieces from the Ashikaga, Momoyama, Tokugawa and Meiji periods, and featured numerous artists from each time frame. It is an interesting collection and depicts the transformation of Japanese artwork from the 15th to the 20th century.
