This is an original 1953 monochrome lithograph by Austrian artist Samuel Brecher, which depicts two unique advertisements intended to promote the following New York businesses: In the upper panel, a gallery labeled as the Hall of Art attempts to draw viewers to Pictures for Everybody at 13 East 40th St, and in the lower panel, a messy collection of art supplies gives away what's for sale at Joseph Torch's, located at 147 West 14th St.

This is a limited edition original lithograph, #1498 out of 2,000. Only the portfolio was numbered, not the individual lithograph's within it. This is not a lithograph "after" the artist. This lithograph was created by the original artist on the lithograph plate, and is, therefore, a true original lithograph. The artists used either litho crayon, ink, or tusche when creating their art works on the plates.

Samuel Brecher

Samuel Brecher (1897-1982) was an Austrian artist hailing from Boryslaw, prior to relocating to New York, where he received his formal art education at the National Academy of Design School, as well as at the Cooper Union School of Art. He was most recognized for his paintings, mosaics, graphic art design and fresco murals. His works primarily centered on figures, genre, portraits, still life, cityscapes, landscapes, coastal views, and marine and nautical subjects. BrecherÕs art has been exhibited at the International Carnegie Institute, the Corcoran Gallery of Washington D. C., the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Brooklyn Museum, the Salmagundi Club and more. He was affiliated with the Salons of America, the Allied Artists of America and the Audubon Society of Artists.
