This is an original 1963 color print by Rafael Montes de Oca of a couple of members from the Calothorax Pulcher family, known commonly as the Beautiful Hummingbird. With an average length of 94 mm., it is very similar to the Calothorax Lucifer, or the Lucifer Hummingbird, however, the males are different, having a longer tail, the feathers of which are wider and with rounded extremities instead of being narrow and pointed. The under parts of the female are gray, rather than bronze. This bird lives in south of Mexico, from the Federal District to Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas. The orchid is Laelia Speciosa, known as the Mayflower Orchid, it is found in the Mexican states of Hidalgo and Mexico, and is seen frequently in Mexico City in May.
