This is an original 1943 halftone print map of the route of Basque Spanish conquistador Lope de Aguirre as he traveled from Peru to Venezuela in 1560 to 1561. He was nicknamed "El Loco" or "the Madman" and is best known for his final expedition where he voyaged down the Amazon River in search of El Dorado.
