1896 Print Caton Woodville Saxon Cuirassier Horseman Cavalry War Sixth XEGA9

This is an original 1896 black and white halftone print of a Cuirassier cavalry soldier from the German state of Saxony. The use of elaborate uniforms was iconic of the Napoleonic Wars and the Imperial Age of Europe. Eventually classy dress in combat would be replaced by mass produced and better camouflaged uniforms for the trenches of World War I.
