1922 Rotogravure Admiral Robert Edwin Peary Funeral Arlington Cemetery Grave

This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of the funeral of Admiral Robert Edwin Peary, the discoverer of the North Pole, and the explorer of the Arctic. Peary claimed to have reached the North Pole in April of 1909, but his claim has been widely doubted today since no one else onboard his ship had any navigational skills, and could not confirm or contradict Peary's work. Shown in the image is his grave site, his funeral cortege at his home in Washington, D. C., and a portrait of the explorer.
