This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of the coronation of Pope Pius XI in the Church of St. Peter in the Vatican City. The caption writes, "The ceremonies attending the coronation of Pius XI as the supreme pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, Feb. 12, 1922, were marked with great pomp and splendor. The great Church of St. Peter was crowded to the doors, and representatives from practically every nation of the world were included in the audience. The new pope, Pius XI, is seen seated on the papal throne."
