This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of a national salute in honor of the unknown soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. The caption writes, "Smoke rising from the firing of the national salute of twenty-one guns on conclusion of the ceremonies attendant on the burial of the 'Unknown Soldier' at Arlington Nov. 11, 1921. In the foreground is seen the tomb, surrounded by dignitaries of the nation and eminent representatives of foreign countries who vied with each other in paying tribute to the 'Unknown Soldier' who had been selected to symbolize all the American dead that perished in the World War. The ceremony throughout was the most impressive and solemn that had ever occurred in the nation's history."
